June 14
Depart from Friendship Church, Farmville, NC and travel to the overnight stop for lodging. Dinner will be on your own at a local restaurant.
June 15
After breakfast, travel to Killington/Rutland, VT to check in at the hotel for a 2-night stay. Dinner at a prearranged location (TBA). This meal is included in the ticket price
June 16
After breakfast, depart with local guide for a day touring Vermont. First stop will be Dakin Farm for a taste experience. Visit the smokehouse and the Master Smoker crafting maple glaze for hams. Visit the Sugarhouse to see the King Style Maple Syrup Evaporator and processes for collecting sap dating back to the 1800s. (Be sure to try some maple creme.) Continue to Danforth Pewter to visit metal crafting workshop producing a variety of goods from jewelry to home goods. Next stop, Middlebury, VT for lunch at Country Inn at the Waybury Inn. The inn was made famous by the Bob Newhart Show. In the afternoon we will visit the Gorham Covered Bridge and Mendon Mountain Apple Orchard. You should visit the farm store and orchard. The evening dinner is on your own but return for a relaxing evening at the hotel.
June 17
After breakfast, check out, and depart for New Hampshire with guide. First stop will be the Quechee Gorge (Vermont’s “Little Grand Canyon”). Next, Franconia Notch State Park. Then visit the New Hampshire Wildlife Program—and outdoor presentation by professional naturalist which includes animals up close. Continue traveling to Maine. Arrive in Portland to check in at the hotel for a 2-night stay. Dinner will be a “Downeast” Lobster Bake.
June 18
After breakfast, depart with local guide to tour Portland. Visit the Victoria Mansion (home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow) and the Old Port. The Portland Harbor Lighthouse. View an outdoor diorama and sculpture of a Liberty Ship. This area was home to two enormous shipyards during WW2. Visit the South Portland Historical Society building with exhibit area and giftshop. Arrive at Freeport, ME for lunch on your own and free time to shop LL Bean. Later you will board the Boat Cruise of the Inner Casco Bay. You will see beautiful scenery, island cottages, Little and Great Diamond Island and Peaks Island. Finally, dinner on your own in the area before returning to the hotel for the evening.
June 19
After breakfast, check out and depart for the overnight stop on the way back to NC. Dinner on your own.
June 20
After breakfast, check out and depart for final leg of the return trip.
