Lectionary Reading: Ephesians 1:15-23 (Year A)
“Christ The King” Sunday
Have you ever wondered what it means to have a rich and glorious inheritance? For us as believers, this is something that we have access to through Christ, yet often times we only focus on the here and now. In Ephesians 1:15-23, Paul writes to the church about the importance of understanding the riches of our inheritance in Christ. Join me as we dive deeper into this powerful passage.

- The Power of God – Paul prays for the church to receive a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God. He wants them to understand the greatness of God’s power towards us who believe. This power was demonstrated when God raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in heavenly places. This position represents Christ’s victory over all spiritual powers and authority. We too have access to this power as believers and need to understand the magnitude of it.
- The Head of the Church – Paul goes on to say that God has put all things in subjection under Christ’s feet and He is the head over all things to the church. This means that Christ is the authority over all spiritual powers and earthly authorities. As believers, we are a part of this church and have access to this authority and power through Christ. It is essential that we understand our position in Christ and the authority we carry.
- The Fullness of Christ – Paul prays that the church may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power towards us who believe. This fullness of Christ refers to the completeness and wholeness that we have access to through Him. We have a hope and a future that is secure in Him, we have a glorious inheritance that is waiting for us, and we have access to a power that is greater than anything we could ever imagine.
- The Body of Christ – Finally, Paul speaks about the body of Christ which is the church. It is through the church that Christ exercises His authority and power. We are called to be His hands and feet, spreading the good news and making disciples. As believers, we are not called to just sit on the sidelines but to be active in the body of Christ. Together, we can accomplish great things through Him who strengthens us.
- A Call to Action – After Paul has outlined the power, authority, and fullness of Christ, he encourages the church to live in light of this knowledge. He prays that their eyes will be opened to the hope of their calling and that they will walk in the power and authority that they have been given. As believers, we too are called to live in light of this knowledge and to walk in the fullness of Christ.

The passage in Ephesians 1:15-23 is a powerful reminder of the richness of our glorious inheritance in Christ. It is essential that we understand the power, authority, and fullness that we have access to as believers. We are called to be active in the body of Christ, spreading His love and making disciples for His kingdom. May we all walk boldly and confidently in the knowledge of our inheritance, knowing that we are heirs to the throne of God.
